The biggest factor that impacts costs is the choice of fixture. There are many fixtures out there, from cheap solar lights (which we don’t recommend) to premium lampposts. That choice can be a personal decision. If you have a landscape designer, work with them to decide what fixture works best in your yard.
The total cost of landscape lighting installation depends on the contractor you’re working with. They may charge for labour, cabling length, and other factors.
We price landscape lighting by the fixture, typically $300 to $400 per fixture. Rather than separating labour, materials, trenching, and wire runs into different items, we keep it simple: the fixture and everything required to install and connect it are included in one price.
That also makes it easy to understand how the total cost changes. A six-fixture system might cover the front of the house and the path to the door, putting the project around $1,800 to $2,400. Twelve fixtures could extend the lighting to the driveway, front of the house, walkway, and a few trees, bringing the total to roughly $3,600 to $4,800.
In other words, the number of fixtures has the biggest impact on the overall cost. Again, this will be something to plan for with a landscape designer. Learn more about landscape lighting placement design.
